Dog-leg shifter is the next entry in this blog.

I am going to call you in a few to clarify, but badass and congradulations. BTW, die hyperlink, it does nothing!
Also interested in details. I've never been in a 2.0... is it quick?
Justin-
The link will make more sense when I've posted more 914 content. For now, it goes to a list that contains ... this post. It's more about consistency than utility.
Raven-
Thanks again for the recommendation on this. I found a 914 in killer shape for a great price, although I'm pretty sure I just got really lucky with the sale.
This thing is probably a little quicker than my Scirocco, but shifts take a lot longer.

any luck with the samba? if not yet, it's a great source for everything aircooled.
also, http://www.pelicanparts.com/ has been nothing but great when we ordered stuff for my dad.
Nah, I haven't yet hit TheSamba. I'll do so later tonight.
I bought a bunch of stuff from PelicanParts for both the BMW and the Mercedes--my experience was the same as your dad's. Great service.

You said something about the shifts taking longer. Similar to 1970's 1 ton trucks were 1st is in the dash and 2nd hits your knees? I would presume you are referring to taller gear ratios.
Irregardless, VERY COOL.
Close, but backwards.
1st hits my knees, second is in the dash.

Oh also, old syncros.
short shift kit?

I saw that, but I'm not sure a short shifter would improve the situation. Having to move the shift so far is only half of the problem--the other half is that it takes a delicate hand to notch the shifter into gear.
New shift bushings, on the other hand, are already in the order basket.

I'd recommend seeing if you can order the GRM series on their 914. i know they rebuilt their tranny, and I think it had something to do with shifting improvements as well. They did a lot, and as with other GRM project cars, I'm sure it contains some good info and research you can use.
Yeah, definitely not a bad idea.
